Adrian Macauley, Executive Principal, Nord Anglia Education China Bilingual Schools

My Education Background

My academic journey culminated in an Executive Masters in International Education from King's College London. There, I conducted a pivotal research project on teacher perceptions of home language use in international schools, a subject close to my heart and crucial to the international education landscape.

My Journey

I understand the complexities of international schools at both academic and commercial levels. My roles have ranged from Assistant Head at a British International School to Regional Head of Teaching & Learning Development for Nord Anglia Education, China Bilingual Schools. During this time, I've not only led teams but also spearheaded strategic initiatives that have had a transformative impact on education delivery.

Some Achievements I’m proud of

  • Co-developed regional education strategy and KPIs, contributing to market-leading growth.

  • Principal author and leader of a regional English curriculum.

  • Founder of 'Becoming Bilingual,' a programme implemented across 11 schools and adapted globally.

  • Created a self-evaluation PD, coaching to accompany a QA programme for Principals, receiving a Net Promoter Score in the 90s.

Did you know…

I’m also passionate about celebrating the use of home languages in international schools. Here I advocate for more mother tongue support on the TEDx stage.

"When hosting a conference with a title such as 'Bridging the Gap – Supporting our Students After the Challenges of Covid,' it is never an easy task to find quality keynote speakers who can provide expertise that resonates with all attendees – and yet, that is exactly what Shane was able to provide us here at BIS HCMC. Shane presented a fascinating keynote based on the importance of home languages and how the transition in teaching, from ignorance towards utilizing those languages spoken at home, to truly embracing translanguaging in the classroom. Following the conference, Shane's keynote and workshop led to rich discussions among our teaching cohort, and we are much better off for it. I look forward to working with Shane again in the future!"
